Since my last post I have discovered the most interesting information. Augustus I. DuPont and wife Betsey lived in Montgomery Alabama in 1865.Whitfield DuPont was born in Montgomery Alabama in 1865 after the civil war ended. It appears the Foster-Fountain Clan was well acquainted with the DuPont Clan.Sara Mercedes Foster married the son of Whitfield Dupont John DuPont and information from a cousin James Osborn Bryson states (his mother) Claudia Foster went with her baby sister to Pensacola to teach school in the unequal and segregrated school system of Escambia County Florida.My quest is for information regarding Augustus I. DuPont..he was born in South Carolina educated in Washington DC move to Montgonery Alabama in 1865 move to Pensacola Florida and became a city councilman.Who were the parents of Augustus I. DuPont born 1830 in South Carolina? Who were the parents of Captain William Foster?

I am looking ofr descendents of Hayes Belton of Greene County, Al and Calvin and Erma Belton Allen of Birmingham. I was told that Calvin was a coach in Birminghamin the 1960s.

I do not have any information on the VANCE surname, but I do have a great aunt and a great uncle that each married a Croom. They used to live in Greensboro Alabama. Last name was Love.

Looking for information regarding my grandmother's mother, Queen Ester Simmons. I believe her mother's name was Hattie Murphy and father Josh Murphy from Greensboro Alabama. Queen Esther Simmons had one daughter, Willie Lee Simmons who married William Love. I am not sure if Queen Esther was married, but if she was she was married to Tommie Simmons.

For the many of our ancestors who were able to cue a little smile there were many whom expressed the weariness of the times in theirs eyes. And, if you look a little closer you have to ask yourself, as a descendent of African-American people, would they be ashamed of what we squander today of their many sacrifices or be proud of those few individuals who have attained respect and grandeur in the eyes of our 21st century Anglo-American brethren? What happens to African Americans when we run out of 1st's (ie, 1st black officer, lawyer, doctor, judge, astronaut, mayor, senator, PRESIDENT, etc., and so on), and our condition of racism, poverty, and crime still doesn't improve in our communities and cities? My thought on this matter is not what we would do but more so of where should we go? An option we have yet to exercise, which is being slowly but surely taken away do to global politics. This site really moved me to think of my own legacy to my children and grandchildren, in honor of my mother and father whom I witnessed sacrifice to their death for our family. These historical photos, though simple, are fascinating and are mirrored bitter-sweet reflections of our ancestral selves, in all our sorrows, all our hopes, and all our spiritual joys. Thank you so much for this site! Thanks for posting the World War 1 picture of my dad! The brave African American men and women who fought during the Great War endured so much...and in my opinion have never received the recognition they deserve.
Which city in Kentucky are interested in? I familiar with Lexington, Ky.
