OLD PHOTOGRAPHS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS UNKNOWN FACES

African American History

I've been researching my genealogy since the end of 2003,  after the death of my grandfather.  Both of my parents were from Shubuta Mississippi. We had lost so many loved ones beginning in 1997, grandmothers, aunts, uncles and, other relatives who had been in my life growing up.  I became interested in my history after many relatives who called Shubuta home, and a few strangers I encountered, in my research had spoken tales and memories of Shubuta. With the death of my grandfather and being surrounded by relatives from both sides, a cousin started talking about "Grandma Mandy" and her many children, who I had heard of all my life. The cousin I knew was family, but, never knew the connection. He often said "I'm related to you more on your mamas side than your daddys side. " I broke it down starting with grandma Mandy up to present. He spoke of her mother being a slave, and her father a slave master. I've met so many family members on both sides, by posting my reseach on the web, I'm now excited because a big reunion is planned in Mississippi for August, this will be the first time for me to go to the place those before me called "Home".
